Dear Blazer Nation,
FOOD TRUCK RALLY!!! UAB is excited to announce that the Birmingham Food Truck Coalition has partnered with UAB Football to be at Game #1 on August 30 when the Blazers take on Savannah State. Bring your friends and family to this great event and get the season started right! Football Season is just around the corner…Tickets are available now! Make your purchase by clicking here. Coming off the greatest comeback in college football history, we want to have another record-setting season, and need everyone to not only renew their tickets, but also encourage others to make that same investment. There are no limits for the success our teams can achieve, but it takes all of us to make that happen.
Summer school is in full-swing and we have 240 student-athletes working towards their degrees and getting ready for next season. Our coaches are all running their youth camps and having fun training hundreds of future Blazers.
On the facilities front, the expansion to BBVA Compass Field is well underway and on pace to be completed by December 2018. This will be the home to our Blazers' men's and women's soccer teams, as well as Birmingham's new professional team Legion FC. Once complete, BBVA Compass Field will be one of the finest on-campus soccer only stadiums in the country.
We also broke ground on our new Olympic track this month. This will be one of the fastest surfaces in the Southeast and is certain to attract numerous youth and collegiate events. It too will be complete this Fall and will be a tremendous asset to our campus, athletics department and of course, the track & field team.
The old Food Fair Building on 6th Avenue South has been completely demolished, and the site is being prepped for our new beach volleyball courts. The old courts were located in the West Campus Field area at the site of the new track. It contained three courts, but the new facility will have five courts, allowing us to host events with more teams and more efficiency. This too will be a huge advantage to our beach volleyball team and will be here just in time for next season.
UAB has sponsored women's bowling since 2011 and has never had a conference affiliation, until now! After several years of hard work, we are excited and grateful that the MEAC has invited us to join their league which will give our team the opportunity to compete for conference championships. The Blazers will be full members of the MEAC for the start of the 2018-19 season.
Finally, congratulations to recent beach volleyball graduate and SAAC Board Member Avei Logoleo for earning a C-USA Postgraduate scholarship. Avei has been a tremendous leader amongst our student-athletes and was also recently featured in ComebackTown which you can read here.
Thanks again for all you do to support our student-athletes and our teams!
Go Blazers!
