Blackwood Tabbed to CoSIDA All-District Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Fresh off of completing his Blazer career, Brett Blackwood of the UAB baseball team has been named to the CoSIDA All-District Academic Team.
Blackwood becomes the seventh Blazer to be named to the CoSIDA All-District Academic team.
"What a great way for Brett to end his collegiate career," head coach Brian Shoop said. "He was a four-year graduate in accounting and will get his master's degree soon. He is everything that the NCAA wants in a student-athlete, he's good in both the classroom as well as on the field. I could not be more proud for Brett to end his time at UAB by receiving this award.
Blackwood earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from the Collat School of Business where he carried a 3.81 GPA in accounting. He was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll three times and is also a recipient of the league's Academic Medal. Throughout his career, he earned UAB Presidential Honors four times, was named to the Dean's List in the spring of 2016 and was a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll on six occasions.
This season, Blackwood led the team in home runs with six and ranked second the team in batting average hitting .267. He recorded his first career multi-home run game at Old Dominion, where he hit two long balls in UAB's 6-3 win on April 13.
Blackwood, along with teammate Carter Pharis, was named to the 2018 Conference USA Baseball All-Academic Team as well.
