Breaking Down the Updated 2018 Football Roster

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - New faces, number changes and a headcount of every class. Here is what you need to know about the updated 2018 UAB football roster which features 128 players going through summer conditioning.

LOTS OF DAVIS':

VETERAN HEAVY:
- The roster is loaded with returning talent, including a senior class of 37 players, the most of any classification.
- Seniors – 37
- Juniors – 26
- Sophomores – 36
- Freshmen – 29
LOCAL FLARE:
- The roster has 57 players from the state of Alabama. Of those, 26 are from the greater Birmingham area.
NEW FACES:
- There are three players that college football fans may be familiar with who have transferred into the program: Quarterback Dallas Davis, running back Larry Wooden and linebacker Jordan Jones.
- Davis played QB at South Alabama and enters his graduate transfer year in a familiar offense with OC Bryant Vincent calling the shots. Davis was the starter for USA in 2016 and led the Jags to a signature win at Mississippi State.
- Wooden, who starred at Spain Park, spent 2017 at Arkansas State as a defensive back but returns to Birmingham as a running back and will have to sit out the 2018 season. Wooden appeared in seven games for the Red Wolves and had eight total tackles as a true freshman.
- Like Wooden, Jones will have to sit out the 2018 season, but returns to his hometown after playing at Alabama A&M for two years. Jones (Bessemer Academy) had five tackles against the Blazers last year in UAB's first game of the season.
NEW NUMBERS:
- Fans should not be confused when they see a cornerback named Williams wearing #1. Nope, it's not PFF First Team All-American Darious Williams (current Baltimore Raven) - it is his running mate D.A. Williams who switches from #9 to #1.
- Defensive tackle Garrett Marino makes the move from #44 to #2, while in the secondary, Will Dawkins moves from #3 to #21 and Mar'Sean Diggs from #2 to #23.
- Running back Kingston Davis, who wore #34 in the spring, will be in #26 for the 2018 season.
LOTS OF DAVIS':
- The most common last name on this year's team is Davis as five unrelated players share that last name: QB Dallas Davis, WR Demetrius Davis, OL James Davis, WR Kevin Davis and RB Kingston Davis.
