UAB Earns Ten Selections on the Athlon Preseason All-Conference USA Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With the 2018 season kicking off in just 98 days, the UAB football team continued to see the preseason accolades roll in as it earned 10 selections to Athlon Preseason All-Conference USA Teams, the national college football publication announced on Thursday.
Spencer Brown and James Davis headline the group receiving Athlon All-Conference nods, claiming spots on the first-team offense.
Brown, a FWAA All-American and the C-USA Freshman of the Year, re-wrote the UAB record books in his rookie campaign. He rushed for 1,329 yards with 10 TDs, while averaging 102.2 yards per game.
Davis helped pave the way for Brown's record-setting year, starting all 13 games at left tackle en route to earning All-Conference USA Honorable Mention recognition.
Senior Andre Wilson made two appearances on the preseason squad, bringing in second-team offense and punt return honors. Wilson inked his name in the UAB record books last season with 54 catches, 677 yards and six touchdowns. He finished the year with 169 punt-return yards.
Also taking home second-team honors was Broderick Thomas, who finished the 2017 season with 95 tackles and two interceptions. Throughout the season, Thomas had no less than seven tackles in nine of 13 games and will be vying for All-America honors this season.
Garrett Marino and Stacy Keely were named to the third-team defense and fourth-team defense, respectively, while quarterback A.J. Erdely and guard Rishard Cook were placed on the fourth-team offense. Kicker Nick Vogel rounded out the Blazer contingent as a fourth-team specialist.
