UAB Selected to Play in the 2018 Junkanoo Jam

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Crystal-clear water and white-sand beaches will greet the UAB women's basketball team over its Thanksgiving break as the team has been selected to participate in the 16th annual Junkanoo Jam on Nov. 22-24, 2018 at Gateway Christian Academy in Bimini, Bahamas.
The Blazers will compete in the Junkanoo Division, which includes the 2015 Junkanoo Jam champion Oklahoma Sooners, the 2013 champion Tennessee Lady Vols and the Clemson Tigers. UAB will kick off the tournament on Nov. 22 at 4:15 p.m. CT against Oklahoma.
A win against the Sooners will see the Blazers play for the tournament division crown against either Clemson or Tennessee on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m. The third place game will be played on Nov. 23 at 6:45 p.m. CT.
"We are very excited for the opportunity to be able to play in the Junkanoo Jam," head coach Randy Norton said. "This tournament will give us the chance to play against outstanding competition and will be a great experience for our team."
UAB and Oklahoma have met just once in program history, with the Blazers edging out the Sooners, 62-61, on Nov. 27, 1998. The Green and Gold have also found success against Clemson, boasting a 4-2 all-time record against the Tigers, including wins in the last three meetings with the most recent a 51-36 triumph on Dec. 30, 2011.
The Blazers are 0-2 all-time against Tennessee, with the last meeting coming on Dec. 1, 1995. Overall, the Blazers are 5-4 against the field.

The Blazers are coming off their best season ever as they captured their first regular season C-USA title in program history en route to a school-record 27 victories and a second-round appearance in the WNIT. The Green and Gold return their top five leading scorers next season and are poised for another tremendous season.
