BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the first time in program history, UAB and the Miami Hurricanes will meet on the gridiron as the two universities have announced a game in Miami GardensΒ on Sept. 19, 2020.
Β
The marquee matchup with the Hurricanes adds to the 2020 non-conference schedule which includes a home contest with Akron (Sept. 12) and a road game at in-state foe South Alabama (Sept. 26).
Β
"We have a lot of players on our roster from the state of Florida, so for them to have an opportunity to return home for a game like this is a big deal to the players and their families," head coach Bill Clark said. "We also recruit the state of Florida very heavily and being able to bring our brand to them only helps."
Β
Miami will mark the 13th time UAB has played a current opponent from an ACC institution, although eight of those games came against teams that were in different conferences at the time: three vs. Louisville in Conference USA, two vs. Pittsburgh in the Big East and three vs. Virginia Tech in the Big East.
Β
The game against the Canes also adds to a list of Power 5 schools that UAB will face on a yearly basis for the next four years. After playing at Florida last season, the Blazers are at Texas A&M this coming fall, at Tennessee in 2019 and at Georgia in 2021.
