UAB Drops Two on Opening Day of Seminole Beach Battle

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. β The UAB beach volleyball team (8-9, 1-4 CCSA) suffered a pair of losses on the opening day of the Florida State Seminole Beach Battle to TCU and No. 11 Georgia State at Friday afternoon.

After a 5-0 defeat to the hands of the Horned Frogs, the Blazers had No. 11 Georgia State on the ropes with a 2-0 lead after victories on courts four and five. The Panthers though, stormed back to win on courts one, two and three for the team win.

The Blazer duo of SalliAnne Napolitano and Annie Pringle gave UAB a 1-0 lead against GSU with a straight set 23-21, 21-18 victory on court five, which was followed by a narrow 18-21, 21-16 15-13 victory for Tressa Buckland and Kaylee McClure on court four.

However, the top half of the Panther lineup won the three remaining matches in straight sets to secure the comeback victory.

In the first match of the day against TCU, the Blazers took the Horned Frogs to three sets on courts one and five, but TCU came out on top 15-12 and 15-13 respectively, and would go on to blank the Blazers.

UAB returns to action on Saturday with matches against CCSA opponents No. 7 Florida State and 11:30 a.m. EST/10:30 a.m. CST and No. 18 Florida Atlantic at 2 p.m. EST/1 p.m. CST.
