BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB track and field team has its final tune up before the Conference USA meet this weekend at the Duke Invitational.
The events get underway on Friday, April 20 at 9 a.m. ET with the men's 5,000-meter with the women's 5,000 coming right after it. Men's discus kicks things off on Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m. ET.
The Blazers are coming off a strong weekend at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Alabama, which saw them post 10 PRs, seven top-10 times and secure three top-5 finishes. Senior Ali Cichos has continued her strong outdoor season in the 100-meter hurdles and heptathlon as she builds towards to C-USA Championships.
On the distance side, Marielle Lewis and Bethan Evans have continued to perform at a high level as they both set new PRs last week in the 1,500-meters and 800-meters, respectively. Eight marks set by the Blazers last weekend rank in the top-15 of Conference USA.
From the Coach's Desk
"We're coming off a strong weekend and a solid week of practice so we're wanting to see the girls use all of the momentum they have built up over the last couple of weeks to turn in even stronger performances and times," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "We have the conference meet coming up next so this is a big weekend for us and we need to run and compete well going into it."
