BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB Department of Athletics continued its long-standing tradition of excellence on the playing surface and in the classroom this past season as it saw 254 student-athletes named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, the league office announced on Thursday.
UAB ranks second in the league with the most student-athletes named to the honor roll behind Rice, who saw 255 student-athletes on the academic list. The Blazers' total includes three sports which do not participate under the C-USA banner, but still have student-athletes recognized for their academic achievements.
"I am extremely proud of all of our student-athletes who were recognized by Commissioner MacLeod for their academic excellence," Director of Athletics Mark Ingram said. "Earning a spot on the Commissioner's Honor Roll is a testament to their hard work and dedication to not only performing in their respective sport, but in the classroom as well."
The group of 254 joins 2,826 other student-athletes from around the league honored for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better over the course of the past athletic year.
Football led the way for all Blazers sports with a program-record 46 student-athletes named to the list, up 15 from last year's 31 players. Women's soccer put the second-most student-athletes on the list with 26, while baseball finished in third with 23.
Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better will also receive the Commissioner's Academic Medal. Those recipients will be released by the league office on Friday.
