UAB Splits Two Matches on Saturday at LSU Beach Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. β Concluding action at the LSU Invitational, the UAB beach volleyball team split its final two matches on Saturday at Mango's Beach Club with a 3-2 loss to Texas A&M Kingsville and a 5-0 victory over Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Meeting each of those team for the first time in program history, Texas A&M Kingsville narrowly defeated the Blazers in UAB's first match.

Devon May and Kenley Adams continued their strong play together on court one as they defeated Whitney Walker and Gabby Atchley 21-18, 21-16, while Gabbi Moreno and SalliAnne Napolitano were also victorious on court five with a wild 27-25 first set victory and a 21-14 second set win.

The Javelina's however, won on courts two and three in straight sets and were victorious on court four in three sets to win the match 3-2 overall.

After playing the same lineup for the last three tournaments, head coach Kyra Iannone then shook up the UAB pairings in the second match which resulted in 5-0 triumph over Corpus Christi.

May and Adams remained on court one, while Avei Logoleo and Erin Bognar paired together for the first time this season and won in three sets on court two, 24-22, 13-21, 15-6.

Emily Martinez and Haley Jared also played together for the first time this year and won 23-21, 21-16 on court three, while Moreno and Napolitano moved up to court four and also won in straight sets.

Tressa Buckland and Annie Pringle rounded out the lineup and were victorious in three set, 20-22, 21-8, 15-13. It was just Pringle's fourth match of the season and she is now 3-1. Β

The Blazers (8-7, 1-3 CCSA) will have a CCSA tournament preview next weekend when they travel to Florida State to play three ranked teams from their league (FSU, FAU, Georgia State) and a future opponent in TCU. Β
