UAB Falls to Southern Miss, 4-2, at C-USA Shootout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team went ahead early but could not string together any victories in singles play as the Blazers fell to Southern Miss, 4-2, in their final match of the Conference USA Shootout on Saturday.
Sophomore Tim Dollman was the Blazers' (11-9, 0-5) star over the three-match competition, winning all three of his matches in singles play while earning two victories in doubles play.
Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez got the day started for UAB with a 6-2 victory over Daniel Merker and Jorman Reyes on Court 1. That win was quickly followed up by another 6-2 win on Court 2, courtesy of Henry Paiste and Nikolai Manchev, to give the Blazers an early 1-0 overall lead.
Southern Miss (16-3) took the first two matches in singles play before Dollman claimed his third singles victory of the weekend, a 6-3, 6-3, decision over Tom Cecchetto to knot the match up a 2-2.
A pair of 6-4, 6-4 wins on Courts 4 and 5 provided the Golden Eagles with their final two wins to seal the 4-2 overall victory.
UAB returns to action on April 8 when it makes the quick trip down I-65 to square off with South Alabama. First serve is set for noon.
