BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB rifle team is heading into championship season as it travels to Charleston, S.C. for the Southern Conference Championships hosted by The Citadel from March 3-4.
It will be the second year in a row that the championship meet will be held at The Citadel.
The Blazers are coming off their trip to Fairbanks, Alaska where they competed against the No. 5 Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks. The Green and Gold posted its second-highest overall score of the season at 4,519 and are looking to ride that momentum into the conference tournament.
"We have scored higher than most of the teams we are competing against this weekend at different points throughout the season," head coach Lori Goodwin said. "If we shoot at the level we are capable of, it could be a very good couple of days. The team is focused and we had a great week of practice so we're feeling confident going into the conference tournament."
The meet will be held at The Citadel's Inouye Marksmanship Center where UAB shot at in October in the early part of the season. UAB finished third in out of five teams in that October meet shooting an overall score of 4,522, its highest of the season.
North Georgia won the team and the smallbore title last season while Georgia Southern claimed the air rifle trophy.
Schedule
The tournament will begin at 8:45 a.m. ET Saturday for day one while day two will get started at 8 a.m. ET on Sunday.
