Blazers Sit Inside Top-Five After Day One

GULF SHORES, Ala. – A 308 (+20) opening round has the UAB women's golf team in fourth place after the first day of the 'Bama Beach Bash at the Gulf Shores Golf Club.
"I thought we played well today, especially Kenna," head coach Kim Wilcox said. "I am looking forward to another good day tomorrow and hopefully climbing up the leaderboard."
Kenna Hughes paced the Blazers as the sophomore fired off three birdies en route to a 73 (+1) and is tied for seventh after the opening 18 holes.
Maria Donado is four shots behind Hughes after carding a 77 (+5) while Sydney Snodgrass turned in a 78 (+6).
Juliana Sebastian and Kayla Wilbourn round out of the UAB lineup as the seniors shot an 80 (+8) and an 84 (12), respectively.
South Alabama leads the tournament after an opening round two-under par 286 has them 11 shots ahead of the second place Georgia State.
The Blazers are set to begin the second round on Saturday at 9:20 a.m. off of hole 10. Live scoring will be available through GolfStat.
