SMYRNA, Tenn. – The No. 14 UAB bowling team had a strong showing at the United State Bowling Congress (USBC) regional over the past weekend to finish in fourth place and at qualify for the USBC National Championships.
"Words cannot describe how proud I am of this team," head coach Michelle Crews said. "They have been working so hard physically and mentally preparing for this event and it showed. Saturday was a really good day – we matched up really well and made some good shots and had amazing chemistry. Sunday was not as good as Saturday by any means, but the girls never gave up and fought hard for every pin they put on the board and gave everything they had down to their last frame.
Our play was enough to get us our first berth to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend and we are so grateful for every day we have together on the lanes. This has been an amazing journey watching these young ladies grow and I am so happy for where we are right now as a team and what is to come."
The sectional consisted of 64 Baker games over two days with total pinfall determining the top four. UAB amassed a 9,274 pinfall over 16 games.
The national championships are set for April 19-21 at the Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb. The final round will be taped and televised on CBS Sports Network in May.
UAB returns to the lanes this weekend to close out the regular season at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic set for March 16-18.
