DENTON, Texas – Deanna Kuzmanic has once again been recognized for her efforts on and off the court as the junior was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team for the second time in her career, the league office announced on Thursday.
Kuzmanic is one of four players in program history to earn a berth on the All-Academic team and one of three to be named to the team twice. On Feb. 22, she became the second Blazer to ever be named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 4 team.
"I continue to be impressed with Deanna and what she accomplishes every single day," head coach Randy Norton said. "This is just another example of how she impacts our program on a day-to-day basis. She pursues excellence not only on the court, but excels in the classroom. I am extremely proud of what she has accomplished this year."
The Mount Prospect, Illinois, native has been one of the Blazers' most consistent players this year, averaging 13.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. She is also posting a 2.4 assist/turnover ratio this season, the best in Conference USA and 25th-best in the NCAA.
On Feb. 24, she recorded a career-high 35 points against Louisiana Tech and became the 28th-member of UAB's 1,000-point club. With two games remaining in the regular season, Kuzmanic looks to make her way up the UAB all-time scoring list.
Off the court, Kuzmanic has recorded a 3.93 GPA in Mathematics with a minor in STEM Education. She is a two-time member of the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a two-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal.
She is a nominee for CoSIDA Academic All-American, which is voted on by sports information directors around the country. Results for Academic All-America will be released later this month.
The other players named to the All-Academic Team are Taylor Stahly (Louisiana Tech), Abbey Sissom (Middle Tennessee), Erica Ogwumike (Rice) and Ivy Brown (WKU).
Kuzmanic and the Blazers return to action on Thursday afternoon when the Green and Gold take on North Texas at 5 p.m. in the Super Pit.
