BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Having already produced one of the most successful home campaigns in program history, the UAB women's basketball team will put the finishing touches on its record-setting season on Saturday when it welcomes Louisiana Tech to Bartow Arena for a 2 p.m. tipoff on Senior Day.
UAB (22-4, 11-2) has posted 12 wins in Bartow Arena this year, tied for the second-most in school history and the most since winning 14 games in 2000-01. It is also the most home victories under head coach Randy Norton.
The Blazers will use their final home game to celebrate the contributions of seniors Kara Rawls, Whytney Singleton and T'erra Lewis, hosting a pregame ceremony in their honor.
"Our girls have a lot of respect for Louisiana Tech," Norton said. "It was a hard-fought battle at their place earlier this month. I think our girls are going to be really excited to have their last game at Bartow Arena as it is Senior Day. I have no doubt that our team is going to be ready to go."
UAB is coming off a thrilling 65-58 home win over rival Middle Tennessee on Thursday night on the back of a 19-point effort from sophomore Miyah Barnes. Barnes came through in the clutch late in the game, knocking down eight of the Blazers' 11-straight made free throws in the final 1:09 of the game to seal the victory.
Barnes has been one of the most consistent players for UAB, leading the team in assists with 127 on the season and posting the second-best assist/turnover ratio in Conference USA at 2.4, while scoring 11.8 points per contest.
Fellow sophomore Rachael Childress continues to lead UAB's offense in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per contest. She leads C-USA and is sixth in the NCAA in 3-point field goal percentage (46.7 percent), while her 86 made 3-pointers this year has helped UAB pull within five made triples of the school record for most 3-pointers made in a single season (219).
Deanna Kuzmanic joins Childress and Barnes in double figure scoring, averaging 13.1 points per contest. Recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 team, Kuzmanic looks to mark her name in UAB history as the junior is 16 points shy of becoming the 28th member of UAB's 1,000-point club.
As a unit, the Blazers rank third in the NCAA in 3-point field goal percentage (40.3 percent) and No. 6 in assist/turnover ratio (1.5).
Louisiana Tech is coming off a huge 89-57 home victory over Southern Miss in which it hit 14 3-pointers and saw five players score in double figures. Taylor Stahly led the quintet of Lady Techsters in double figures with 19 points.
Senior Alexus Malone continues to be LA Tech's most prolific player, leading the team in scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg).
The two teams will square off for just the seventh time in program history with UAB holding a 4-2 edge in the all-time series. The most recent of the four wins came on Feb. 4, when the Blazers recorded a come-from-behind 66-61 victory in Ruston. UAB is 1-1 all-time against Louisiana Tech in Bartow Arena.
Single game tickets for UAB's final home game are currently on sale and can be purchased online or by calling the UAB Ticket Office at 205-975-8221. Fans can also purchase a Gold Card for admission to women's basketball, baseball and softball games.
