BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Deanna Kuzmanic's hard work in the classroom and on the court this season has paid off as the junior has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 4 team, the national organization announced on Thursday.
Kuzmanic is the second player in program history and the 28th player in UAB Athletics history to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 Team. She joins Amber Jones (2013) as the only women's basketball players to make the team.
"I am so proud of Deanna and the way that she takes care of her business," head coach Randy Norton said. "When I recruited her, I explained the culture that we wanted to build here at UAB and she has been instrumental in helping us build it. If you had a definition of what you wanted in a UAB women's basketball player, I would have her picture right next to it. She is outstanding in the classroom. She is outstanding on the court. She's just a high character young lady. Deanna has helped mold this program into what we want."
The Mount Prospect, Illinois, native has been one of the Blazers' most consistent players this year, averaging 13.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. She is also posting a 2.6 assist/turnover ratio this season, the best in Conference USA and 25th-best in the NCAA.
Following her 11-point outing on Thursday against Middle Tennessee, she is now just 16 points shy of becoming the 28th member of UAB's 1,000-point club and the first since Chelsee Black.
Off the court, Kuzmanic has recorded a 3.93 GPA in Mathematics with a minor in STEM Education. She is a two-time member of the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a two-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal and the fourth player in program history to be name to the C-USA All-Academic Team, which she accomplished last season.
Academic All-District honorees will advance to the Academic All-America Team ballot, which will be voted on by dues-paying members of CoSIDA in March. For more information on the national program, click here.
Kuzmanic and the Blazers return to action on Saturday as the Green and Gold hosts Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m. in Bartow Arena. UAB will celebrate Senior Day before the contest, honoring Kara Rawls, Whytney Singleton and T'erra Lewis for their contributions to the program.
