UAB Hosts McNeese State in Saturday Matinee

BIRMINGHAM – The (RV) UAB women's basketball team returns to Bartow Arena when it hosts McNeese State in a Saturday matinee. Tipoff between the Blazers and Cowgirls is set for 2 p.m.
UAB (7-1) is coming off a 66-41 win at cross town rival Samford on Wednesday. Deanna Kuzmanic led the Blazers with a season high 20 points. Kuzmanic has been the most consistent offensive threat in the Blazers' offense as she is the only player to net double figures every game this season and is tied for the team lead in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game.
Rachael Childress, also tied for the team lead in scoring, has been knock down from long range, ranking 20th in the NCAA in 3-point field goals per game (3.3). The Moulton, Ala., native has helped the Blazers to a league leading 9.0 made baskets per game from beyond the arc.
The Blazers' offense has been tough to defend as they rank 24th nationally in field goal percentage (46.5 percent), averaging 80.1 points per game. Individually, Katelynn Thomas ranks ninth nationally in field goal percentage converting on 63.8 percent (44-of-69) of her shots and ranks third on the team in scoring with 13.0 points per game.
Miyah Barnes' unselfishness has contributed to the team's success as she ranks seventh nationally in assists per game (7.0). The junior has 311 career assists and needs three more to break into the top-10 in UAB history in career assists.
McNeese State (0-6) comes to Birmingham after a 93-65 loss to fellow Conference USA member Rice on Nov. 25 and will be playing their first game in 12 days.
Callie Maddox leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. The freshman has scored in double figures in five of six games, including a career high 17 points at Grambling to open the season.
Fans are invited to attend a 20-minute post game shoot around following the conclusion of Saturday's game. Members of the UAB women's basketball team will be on the court to sign autographs and take photos during the event. Tickets to the game are $5 for adults or $3 for kids 18 and younger and can be purchased online or at the Bartow Arena Ticket Office.
UAB will return to the court on Sunday, Dec. 16 at Alabama State. Tipoff between the Blazers and Hornets is set for 3 p.m. in Montgomery
