UAB Closes Non-Conference Slate With UAH

BIRMINGHAM – The (RV) UAB women's basketball team closes its 13-game non-conference slate on Sunday when it welcomes UAH to Bartow Arena. Tipoff between the Blazers and Chargers is set for 2 p.m.
UAB (11-1) is off to its best start in school history and is coming off of a 62-60 victory over Florida Gulf Coast in the Hilton Garden Inn Classic Championship game. Deanna Kuzmanic netted a game high 31 points en route to earning Tournament MVP Honors.
Kuzmanic, the reigning Conference USA Player of the Week, leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game. The senior ranks second in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (50.0 percent) and is the only Blazer on the team to score in double figures in every game this season.
Rachael Childress ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per contest and became the 29th member of UAB's 1,000-point scoring club in the win over the Eagles in the championship game. The junior leads C-USA in 3-point field goals per game, knocking down 3.3 per contest.
UAH sits at 4-6 on the season, but Sunday marks the Division II member's second consecutive mid-season exhibition game. The Chargers are averaging 66.4 points per game and are shooting 42.6 percent (237-of-556) from the floor.
Aryn Sanders leads a trio of Chargers averaging double figures as the junior is netting 17.3 point per contest. The Tennessee native has three 20+ point games underneath her belt this season, including a season high 24 against West Florida.
Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to celebrate New Year's Eve, Eve with the Blazers and can count down to midnight following the game. Tickets to the game are $5 for adults or $3 for kids 18 and younger and can be purchased online or at the Bartow Arena Ticket Office.
