BIRMINGHAM – The (RV) UAB women's basketball team closes its short two-game homestand on Friday night when it welcomes Alcorn State to Bartow Arena. Tipoff between the Blazers and Lady Braves is slated for 6 p.m.
UAB opened the homestand with an 82-47 victory over Alabama A&M on Wednesday night. Four Blazers netted double figures led by Imani Johnson's career high 18 points.
Johnson continued the trend of having a post lead the team as scoring as Katelynn Thomas paced the Blazers in the previous four contests. Thomas, reigning Conference USA Player of the Week, has finished in double figures in the last five games and ranks 14th nationally in field goal percentage, shooting 63.0 percent.
Deanna Kuzmanic has also been a consistent threat for the UAB offense as the senior ranks third on the team, averaging 13.7 points per game and is the only player on the team to net double figures in every game this season.
UAB ranks eighth in the NCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) and 20th in assists per game (8.5). Miyah Barnes ranks ninth in country in total assists (42), seventh in assists per game (7.0) and 26th in assists-to-turnover ratio (3.2).
Alcorn State comes to Birmingham in search of its first win of the season as it is 0-5, coming off a 57-46 loss against Central Arkansas.
Toddriana Isler leads the Lady Braves, averaging 11.0 points per game to go along with a team-high 7.8 rebounds per contest. The forward has a pair of double doubles underneath her belt, including one against the Bears on Wednesday, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Friday marks the fourth all-time meeting between UAB and Alcorn State with the Blazers leading the series 3-0. The most recent meeting was in 2014 when the Blazers claimed a 57-43 win inside Bartow Arena.
Tickets to the contest can be purchased online or at the Bartow Arena Ticket Office. They are $5 for adults and $3 for kids 18 and younger.
Women's basketball season tickets are on sale by purchasing the 2018-19 Gold Card for $65. The Gold Card includes access to home baseball and softball games in addition to all 11 of women's basketball's remaining home contests. Contact the UAB Ticket Office, (205) 975-UAB1, for more details.
