UAB Closes Exhibition Play With Young Harris

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team wraps up its two-game exhibition slate on Saturday when it welcomes Young Harris to Bartow Arena. Tipoff between the Blazers and Mountain Lions is slated for noon.
UAB is coming off a 95-53 win over Miles College on Tuesday to open exhibition play. Four players netted doubled figures, led by Rachael Childress' 17 points. Margaret Whitley also reached the double digit scoring mark as she closed the game with 11 points in her UAB debut.
As a team, UAB shot an impressive 52.6 percent (30-of-57) from the field, while it shot 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from long range.
On the defensive end, Katelynn Thomas led UAB with nine rebounds. The Birmingham native also pitched in nine points.
Young Harris went 9-20 last season with a 6-16 mark in Peach Belt Conference play. The Mountain Lions enter the 2018-19 season under the guidance of first year head coach Jim Davis.
The Mountain Lions return their third-leading scorer in Ashlyn Ellison, who averaged 9.2 points per game last season. The Gainesville, Ga., native shot 35.5 percent (72-of-203) from the field, while she finished with a career-high 19 points on two separate occasions.
Tickets to Saturday's game can be purchased online or at the Bartow Arena Ticket Office for $5 for adults or $3 for kids 18 or younger.
Women's basketball season tickets are available by purchasing the 2018-19 Gold Card for $65. The Gold Card includes access to home men's soccer, volleyball, baseball and softball games in addition to all 15 women's basketball home contests.
