BIRMINGHAM – Two members of the UAB women's soccer team were recognized for their outstanding efforts in the classroom as Kelsey Daugherty and Natalie Presedo each claimed spots on Conference USA's All-Academic Teams, the league office announced on Thursday.
Daugherty earned First Team honors for the second-straight season, while Presedo earned her first conference academic recognition after garnering a spot on the Second Team. UAB has now had at least two student-athletes recognized with All-Academic honors in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
"I am so proud of what Kelsey and Natalie have been able to accomplish both on and off the field this season," head coach Erica Demers said. "This honor is not easily achieved and is a true testament to their work ethic and dedication to their school work. They both embody the type of student-athlete that we are looking for as we continue to build our program."
The senior goalkeeper currently boasts a 3.818 GPA and is planning on graduating with a degree in kinesiology with a concentration in fitness leadership. On the field, she clinched First Team All-Conference honors and was named the C-USA Goalkeeper of the Year.
On the year, Daugherty notched 92 saves, tied for the seventh most in a single campaign in program history, while pitching six shutouts on the year. In her career, she holds the school record with 351 total saves and ranks second with 16 career shutouts.
Presedo currently has a 3.908 GPA in biology and anthropology. A member of UAB's stout backline, the junior helped UAB pitch six shutouts on the season after starting in all 18 games this season. She finished the year with 11 shots, five of which were on frame, and found the back of the net one time in a 2-1 overtime win against WKU.
The rising senior is one of seven starters from this season that return for the Blazers as they prepare for the 2019 campaign.
