BIRMINGHAM – Entering the Conference USA Tournament as the No. 3 seed, the UAB women's soccer team begins its quest for a title in the quarterfinals when it takes on Southern Miss on Wednesday at 1 p.m. (CST) in Norfolk, Virginia.
The Blazers (9-7-1, 6-4-0 C-USA) finished the regular season with nine wins en route to securing its first back-to-back winning seasons since the 2003-04 campaigns, while securing a top-3 seed for consecutive seasons for the first time in school history.
UAB and Southern Miss have already met once this season, with the Blazers claiming a 2-0 win on October 21. Sophomore Regan Kommor and senior Caroline Kehrer each netted goals in the victory.
Leading the charge into the game are All-Conference First Team member Kelsey Daugherty and Second Team honoree Kamilah Mustafa.
Daugherty, who was also named the Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Year, has notched 89 saves this season and broke the school record for career saves in the team's earlier meeting with Southern Miss. The senior now has 348 career saves and ranks eighth on the single season list with her save total in 2018.
On the offensive side of the ball, Mustafa paces the team with eight goals, five of which have been game winners. Her five game-winning goals rank 18th in the NCAA this season and are tied for third on the all-time single-season list with Amy Brewer.
The teams are no strangers to each other, with Wednesday's meeting marking the 21st time that they will face off since the inception of the series in 1998. UAB leads the all-time series, 13-5-2, and has won the last two meetings.
Wednesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+, while live stats will be provided. More information on the tournament, including ticket information and a complete schedule, can be found here.
