BIRMINGHAM – Coming off record-breaking campaigns, senior Kelsey Daugherty and sophomore Kamilah Mustafa have been recognized for their outstanding performances with All-Conference USA honors, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Daugherty became the program's first-ever Goalkeeper of the Year and was named the league's First Team All-Conference net minder for the second-straight season, while Mustafa claimed Second Team honors after leading the team in goals scored, capturing the first league honor of her young Blazer career.
"This award for Kelsey is so deserving to someone in our program who has played a massive role in our success for the past two seasons," head coach Erica Demers said. "Every game we can count on help her to keep us in games. I am so proud of her.
"Kam has also been such a bright spot on our team this year. She came back with a new perspective in her role on this team and we are very thankful for her play so far this season."
Daugherty has been a force for UAB in goal, recording 89 saves this year, good for eighth in program history for a single season, while her .784 save percentage is currently ninth on the single season list. With her current marks, she has recorded a top-10 mark in both categories in all four seasons as a member of the Green and Gold.
She made history earlier in the season against Southern Miss, when she broke the career record for saves, topping the previous record of 341, which was held by Kate Blankenship (2007-10). She now has 348 total saves in her career entering the C-USA Tournament.
The Kennesaw, Georgia, native earned two Goalkeeper of the Week honors this season, on Sept. 3 after a career-best 11-save performance against Memphis and after the Southern Miss game. She finished her career with seven weekly honors, the most of any player in program history.
Mustafa was a goal-scoring machine for the Green and Gold this season, leading the Blazers with eight on the year. Of those eight, five were game winners, ranking 18th in the NCAA and first in C-USA. Her five game-winning goals ties her for third with Amy Brewer for the most in a single season in program history.
She scored a career-high two goals on the road against North Alabama, where her two late penalties secured a road victory for the Blazers.
Daugherty and Mustafa lead UAB into the Conference USA Tournament on October 31 when the Blazers square off with Southern Miss at 1 p.m. (CST). More information on the tournament can be found here.
