BIRMINGHAM – After setting the school record for career saves in Sunday's shutout win over Southern Miss, senior net minder Kelsey Daugherty has been named the Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Daugherty has now claimed two weekly awards this season, the first coming on September 3, and now has a program-best seven weekly honors on her already glowing resume.
"Kelsey has been the definition of consistency this season for our program," head coach Erica Demers said. "In every game, she has kept her team in the match by making great decisions and has kept us alive. This weekend was no different as her breaking the former record with our alumni to celebrate with her."
The Kennesaw, Georgia, native got the weekend off to a good start by recording five saves, including a crucial stop in overtime, to seal a 2-1 extra time thriller over WKU. She added five more saves on Sunday in a 2-0 shutout win over Southern Miss, the senior's sixth clean sheet of the season and the 16th of her career.
Her record-breaking save came with 12:13 remaining in the game, when she faced a shot from Southern Miss' Monica Maldonaldo that she comfortably handled for her 342nd career save, surpassing the previous program record of 341 saves held by Kate Blankenship (2007-10).
Daugherty now has 84 saves this year, good for ninth in program history for a single season, while her .840 save percentage is currently second on the single season list in that category. With her current marks, she has recorded a top-10 mark in both categories in all four seasons as a member of the Green and Gold.
UAB closes out the 2018 regular season on Saturday, October 27, when it welcomes Middle Tennessee to BBVA Compass Field for Senior Night. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Fans can catch all the action via livestream on CUSA.tv, while live stats for Saturday's match will also be provided here.
