TULSA, Okla. – Former Blazer James Naile tossed six scoreless innings as the Midland Rockhounds defeated the Tulsa Drillers 1-0 and claimed their fourth consecutive Texas League Championship on Sunday night.
Naile was credited with the win after he started the game giving up five hits, two walks and striking out six batters over six innings. Tyler Sturdevant, Joel Seddon, Brandon Mann and Kyle Finnegan all came in in relief combining for three-innings of no hit and three strikeout baseball.
The Rockhounds' one run came in the top of the first when leadoff hitter Jorge Mateo reached base after a wild throw from the Drillers' third baseman allowing him to reach second. He would later score when Viosergy Rosa hit a RBI single with two outs to secure the win.
Naile completed his third season of professional baseball in 2017. This year he appeared in 18 games, throwing 73.2 innings with a career-low 68 hits allowed while striking out 57 batters.
Naile has enjoyed great success while in Midland. He won the 2016 Rawlings Gold Glove Award for minor league pitchers. The Missouri native also started the Rockhounds' game in last seasons' Texas League Championship.
A three-year letterwinner for the Green and Gold from 2013-2015, Naile was selected in the 20th round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
