JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The UAB men's soccer team grabbed its second consecutive win when it defeated Jacksonville 2-1 on Friday night at Southern Oak Stadium. The Blazers (2-0-1) are off to their best start since 2013, while the Dolphins fall to 0-3-0 on the season.
"Another great win," head coach Mike Getman said. "I thought we were very good for 75 minutes then we were rough for the last 15."
Midfielder Massimo Ferrin put the Blazers on the board at 16:29 mark of the first half with a strike on a penalty kick from outside the box giving the Blazers the 1-0 advantage.
Later in the first half, Trey Nelson grabbed UAB's second goal with a header at the 36:23 minute mark. Redshirt senior Rami Dajani was attributed with the assist, his first of the season.
Jacksonville cut the Blazers' lead to one with 19:18 left to go in the second half with Ju Bennett netted a cross from Redondo Beauplan.
For Ferrin it was his second goal this season and fifth of his career. His first goal this season also came on a penalty kick earlier in the year.
Nelson notched his first career goal while Dajani was grabbed his fifth assist of his career.
"Two road trips trips and two wins, that's pretty special," Getman said.
UAB returns home Monday, Sept. 4 when it hosts Missouri State in the annual 'Soccer For A Cure' Classic. Proceeds from the event will go directly to families at Children's Hospital of Alabama. First kick is slated for 6 PM at BBVA Compass Field.
