Hey Blazer Fans, This past week in UAB soccer we traveled to South Carolina and then FIU on Saturday. Both were crucial games as we are fighting to make the conference tournament.
Against South Carolina, we dominated the game in possession and put them under pressure early. Kevin (Sawchak) scored an early goal from distance and from there we continued to dominate. However, 10 minutes later we gave up a weak goal. But the team kept going and we were very disappointed not to get the victory. As the game went into OT we were still dominating in every category. At the end of the night though, it was a draw and one point to us.
With a win against FIU, we would seal our fate and book our ticket to the conference tournament and everyone knew this. However, our performance was a bit lacking in the early part and we gave up a goal from a set piece. The boys showed some resilience and came back fighting. It wasn't until after halftime that Kevin once again found the back of the net. However, once again we were our own undoing. We gave up another goal on a similar set piece to the first. We did not hang our heads but kept fighting. In the end though, it wasn't our meant to be.
Now we sit in last place with one game left. Eight of nine teams make the tournament. We still have a chance if we can win on Senior Night on Friday the7th. Also, FIU has to lose to SMU at FIU. So our fate is halfway ours to determine. This week we have worked hard, but we must get it all right on Friday or we are done for 2008.
SO PLEASE COME OUT AND SUPPORT!!! We need fans to congratulate and cheer our seniors, who have given so much to this program. But also, support us so that our Seniors may have more games. Bring your friends and family and Get Loud for your UAB BLAZERS!
