Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal Winners Announced

IRVING, Texas – A total of 672 student-athletes, including 66 from UAB, have earned the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal during the 2016-17 academic year, league Commissioner Judy MacLeod announced Friday.
Medals are awarded to those Conference USA student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better.
The total number of medals awarded was an increase of more than 11 percent from a year ago. UTSA had the most academic medal winners with 65 in conference-sponsored sports. Marshall placed second with 64, followed by UAB with 55.
Women’s soccer featured the highest number of student-athletes of the 66 produced by UAB, finishing with 13 individuals to receive an academic medal. Softball followed with seven, while men’s soccer and football ranked a close third with six student-athletes each on the list.
