MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The UAB baseball team fell for the second straight night to Middle Tennessee on Friday. The Blue Raiders won the game 18-3 in seven innings. The Blazers record is 16-19 on the year and 5-9 in Conference USA and the Blue Raiders improve to 18-17 and 6-8 in C-USA.
“They’ve scored double-digits four games in a row,” said head coach Brian Shoop. “They are hot and we just couldn’t get them out.”
UAB had an early lead when Price Visintainer scored from third base on a wild pitch in the first inning. It gave the Blazers a 1-0 advantage after the first.
The Blue Raiders would go on to score two-or-more runs in the next four straight innings. They tallied four across the second and third frames before UAB scored twice in the top of the fourth to make it 4-3. MT racked up seven runs on six hits and two errors in the bottom of the fourth and followed with four more runs in the fifth inning to lead 15-3. The four runs came in one swing of the bat by Austin Dennis who hit his second home run of the game over the left field wall.
The game concluded in the bottom of the seventh inning when pinch-hitter Manuel Lopez hit a home run down the left field line to score three runs. That extended the lead to 15 runs when the game was called due to the 15-run rule in C-USA for mid-series games.
Visintainer and Brewer Hicklen each finished with two hits atop the Blazer order.
MT outhit UAB 17-9 while committing just one error to the Blazers two. The Blue Raiders had five home runs in the game.
Adam Lamar had his second loss of the season after throwing three-plus innings. The senior allowed nine hits and seven runs.
A.J. Spencer moved to 2-0 after tossing 5.2 innings. He conceded seven hits, two walks, and three runs while striking out six.
The series finale is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. The game was originally slated for 1 p.m. but was pushed back an hour. The UAB starter is Tanner Graham and will be facing Cody Puckett for Middle Tennessee.
