Blazers Take Seventh at Ping Cougar Classic

PROVO, Utah - Led by Taylor Eyster’s four under in the final round of the Ping Cougar Classic, the UAB men’s golf placed seventh overall at Riverside Country Club hosted by BYU.
“It was a great final round today by Taylor [Eyster] and William [Walker]. They managed themselves around the course nicely,” said head coach Mike Wilson. “The team continues to make strides to peak for the Conference USA Championship in two weeks.”
Eyster entered the final round tied for 24th at even par and carded a -4 to move up 14 spots and finish in a tie for 10th, which is his third top 10 finish of the season. Eyster was at or under par in all three rounds (72-72-68) and has now notched such type rounds 15 times this season.
William Walker also had a great showing in the final round with a three under, which moved him up 12 spots as he finished tied for 17th. Walker shot -1 overall for the tournament which was his second consecutive tournament under par (-3 at Augusta) and his second straight top 20 finish.
Tim Harry finished one stroke behind Walker at even par for the tournament (72-71-73) and tied for 20th, while Murray Naysmith shot three over today and finished six over for the tournament in a tie for 41st.
UAB shot -1 overall for the tournament, while BYU took home team honors at -22. Individually, Pavan Sagoo of Saint Mary's shot -7 to win the tournament.
The Blazers are now set to participate in the C-USA Championship which takes places April 23-26 in Texarkana, Ark. UAB took second at last year’s championship and then placed third at NCAA Regionals to qualify for their third straight NCAA Tournament.
