BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s tennis team hosts Winthrop to close out its three-match homestand on Sunday, March 5. The Blazers and Eagles are slated to faceoff at the Lakeshore Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
Last time vs. Winthrop
In February 2014, the Blazers and Eagles met in a solo dual match. UAB earned a 4-3 win over Winthrop in Rock Hill S.C. Current assistant coach Rafael Rondino led UAB with a doubles and win at the No. 2 singles position.
Season Statistics
The Blazers (5-3), boast a 5-1 record at home, their lone loss coming to ranked foe South Alabama. Senior Christian Coetzee owns a 5-1 mark in singles action to lead UAB, while freshman Tim Dollman and senior Eric Komati also have five wins with a 5-2 overall mark.
UAB is 29-14 (.674) this season in singles action.
In doubles play, Dollman and Stefan Gonzalez, both freshmen, are 4-2 to lead UAB, with a pair of wins coming at No. 1 and No. 2 courts. As a team, the Blazers are 15-7 (.682) on the season.
Roster Breakdown
UAB returns six players from last season’s team that made it to the C-USA Championship and welcomes six newcomers to its team this spring. The Blazers’ have experience in their lineup with Christian Coetzee and Eric mKomati, who both enter their senior seasons.
