NORFOLK, Va. – The UAB women’s basketball team’s fourth quarter comeback fell short as the Blazers fell to Old Dominion, 73-61, at the Ted Constant Center on Saturday afternoon. UAB was led by Rachael Childress’ 13 points and seven rebounds.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Freshman Rachael Childress’ connected on three 3-pointers, totaling 73 made triples this season; her 73 3-pointers ranks seventh in the UAB record books for 3-point field goals made in a single season and needs one more to move into sixth place
- Childress netted a team-high 13 points and reeled in seven rebounds; Childress has led the Blazers in scoring 11 times this season and in rebounding six times
- Childress’ 13-point outing marks the 16th time she has scored in double figures this season, the most on the team
- Junior Keonna Farmer’s 10 points marks her eighth double figure this game this season and 15th of her career
- Freshman Miyah Barnes connected on three field goals; Barnes has hit 3 or more field goals in eight of the Blazers 13 league games this season
- Sophomore Deanna Kuzmanic dished out five assists for the third time in league play this season
- Barnes four assists tied her league high for the fifth time
- Junior Whytney Singleton hit three field goals for the fourth time in league play this season and tied her league high of three rebounds for the third time this season
- Farmer was perfect from the free throw line (6-of-6); in Farmer’s last two games she is 18-of-18 from the foul line
- Sophomore Deanna Kuzmanic made her 55th consecutive start, the longest active streak on the team; Junior Keonna Farmer made 24th career start, a career long; Freshman Miyah Barnes made her 21st consecutive start, the most by a freshman on the roster

- UAB moves to 12-11 this season and 5-8 in C-USA play
- Head coach Randy Norton drops to 61-56 and 30-33 in conference play
- As a team the Blazers hit eight 3-pointers, totaling 177 made triples this season; the team’s combined 177 3-pointers ranks sixth in the UAB record book for 3-point made field goals in a single and season and they need three more to move into fifth place
- The starting lineup of Deanna Kuzmanic, Miyah Barnes, Rachael Childress, Keonna Farmer, and Janeka Williams drops to 5-6
- UAB outscored Old Dominion by six points in the fourth quarter; the Blazers are outscoring opponents by +61 points in the fourth quarter this season
- The Blazer bench was outscored 18-16 marking just the seventh time this season UAB’s bench has been outscored

BREAKING DOWN THE BOX SCORE
- Overall, UAB shot 43.4 percent from the floor, in large part to a 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) showing in the fourth quarter; ODU shot 28-of-57 (49.1 percent) from the floor and 9-of-18 from long range
- UAB’s defense was disruptive in the fourth quarter as it forced six turnovers; the Blazers scored 13 points off turnovers in the fourth
- ODU dished out 19 assists, while UAB had 12
- UAB outscored ODU 24-9 in points off turnovers

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UAB came out of the gates shooting just 2-of-6 from the floor to Old Dominion’s 6-of-10, allowing the Lady Monarchs to lead 14-7. A 7-0 run earned ODU a 21-9 lead with 1:17 to play in the opening quarter, but a Janeka Williams triple cut the lead to 21-12 at the end of the opening 10.
- Shooting 50 percent from the floor (15-of-30) the Lady Monarchs extended their lead over the Blazers to 19, 39-20, with 2:30 to go in the half. UAB and ODU traded buckets to end the half with ODU leading 41-26.
- In the third, the Lady Monarchs extended their lead to 20, its largest of the contest, 58-38 with 2:33 to go.
- The Blazers fight was relentless as a 16-5 run, spanning from the third to fourth quarter cut the ODU lead to nine, 63-54, with 5:41 on the clock. The burst was too little, too late as UAB fell at ODU, 73-61.

UAB returns home Thursday night to face Marshall for the first game of its final homestand of the season. Tip between the Blazers and Thundering Herd is slated for 7 p.m.
The weekend continues Saturday with a game against Western Kentucky and a senior day ceremony honoring Janeka Williams. The Blazers and Lady Toppers are set to tip at 2 p.m.
