NORFOLK, Va. – The UAB women’s basketball team wraps up its two game East Coast swing on Saturday when they take on Old Dominion. The Blazers and the Lady Monarchs are slated to tip at 3 p.m. CT inside the Ted Constant Convocation Center on ESPN3.
UAB NOTABLES
- UAB holds a 155-184 record in 21 seasons in Conference USA
- Thursday’s comeback win at Charlotte featured four Blazers netting double figures; the Blazers have had four or more players in double figures five times this season

SCOUTING OLD DOMINION
The Lady Monarchs currently sit in a three-way tie for fifth place in Conference USA with a 12-11 record and 7-5 mark in league play. They are averaging 68.7 points per game and are shooting 43.4 percent (590-of-1360) from the field. On the defensive end they boast the 35th-best rebound margin in the NCAA at +6.6. ODU’s opponents have shot 34.3 percent (141-of-411) from long range, the second-highest percentage given up.
Jennie Simms paces the offense netting 25.5 points per game, the second most per contest in the NCAA. Simms ranks third in the country in field goals made (203), ninth in field goal attempts (428) and fifth in free-throws made (137). She has recorded two 40+ point games this season, earned United States Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week honors, and has been name the C-USA Player of the Week four times this season.
Destinee Young ranks second the team in scoring with 11.0 points per game and is averaging a double-double with her, C-USA leading, 10.8 rebounds. Young’s 32 blocked shots ranks first on the team while her 49.8 percent (111-of-223) from the field and 21 steals both rank second on the squad.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB – A monstrous fourth quarter comeback completed the UAB women’s basketball team’s 88-81 comeback on the road at Conference USA leader Charlotte on Thursday. Keonna Farmer led a quartet of Blazers in double figures as she paced the offense with 20 points.
Old Dominion – The Old Dominion women’s basketball team fell to Middle Tennessee, 80-63, on Thursday at home snapping the Lady Monarchs’ four-game win streak. Jennie Simms scored a team-high 19 points, reeled in nine rebounds and dished out five assists.
ON DECK
UAB returns home Thursday night to face Marshall for the first game of its final homestand of the season. Tip between the Blazers and Thundering Herd is slated for 7 p.m.
The weekend continues Saturday with a game against Western Kentucky and a senior day ceremony honoring Janeka Williams. The Blazers and Lady Toppers are set to tip at 2 p.m.
