Blazers Travel to South Alabama for Final Non-Conference Road Contest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With Conference USA play on the horizon, the UAB women's basketball team will play its final non-conference road game of the season when it takes on South Alabama Tuesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. from the Mitchell Center.
UAB (9-2) is coming off of 61-44 home victory over Alabama State on Tuesday night. Rachael Childress netted 15 points while Kara Rawls tallied a career high four blocks as the Blazers' defense secured the win.
The Blazers have been strong from long range this season averaging a league best 40.5 percent (85-of-210) mark. UAB has outshot its opponent from deep 10 times this season and has amassed eight wins when doing so.
Childress enters Thursday's contest as C-USA's leader in 3-point field goal percentage (46.7 percent) and 3-pointers made per game (3.2) The preseason All-Conference selection has tallied double figures nine times this season en route to being the team's leading scorer in five contests.
Guards Miyah Barnes and Deanna Kuzmanic have been extremely unselfish this season dishing out 50 and 39 assists, respectively. The duo has combined to lead the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio as Kuzmanic carries a +2.6 and sits in first with Barnes in second place at a +1.9 mark.
South Alabama enters the game with a 7-3 record this season, including a marquee win at North Carolina on Nov. 19. The Jags have won of their previous seven games by double digits with four of those coming by 20 or more points.
Chyna Ellis leads the team in scoring averaging 16.2 points per game to go along with a team-best 9.3 rebounds per contest. The senior center has tallied double figure points in nine games thus far while recording double digit rebounds in four.
UAB and South Alabama are meeting for 44th time in program history with the series dating back to the Blazers' inaugural season of 1978. The Green and Gold have been extremely successful in the matchup holding a 29-14 advantage including being winners of the previous three contests.
Following Thursday's contest, the Blazers are set to play one final non-conference game against Tuskegee on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. from Bartow Arena before opening C-USA play at Old Dominion on January 4.
