HIGH POINT, N.C. – The UAB women's basketball team looks to put the finishing touches on a successful four-game road trip as the Blazers take on High Point at the Millis Athletic and Convocation Center on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. CST.
The Blazers (5-1) are seeking to win back-to-back road contests for the fourth time under head coach Randy Norton and the first time since defeating Florida Atlantic (03/02/17) and FIU (03/04/17) in back-to-back games last season.
"I am very proud of how the girls have performed over the last three games being away from home," Norton said. "We are constantly preaching to the team about doing everything we can to be a championship program and winning on the road is a big part of that. High Point has won its last three games and will be a great test for us, so we need to be ready to go in and compete."
UAB is coming off a 70-59 victory at Appalachian State in which the Blazers saw five players score in double figures for the first time since December 3, 2015 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Rachael Childress paced the Blazers' scoring efforts against the Mountaineers, tallying 13 points in 27 minutes, while Katelynn Thomas and Imani Johnson added 12 points and 11 points, respectively, off the bench. Kuzmanic and Barnes added 10 points apiece in the win.
Through six games, sophomore Childress has been UAB's top attacking threat, averaging 15.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Kuzmanic (13.2) and Barnes (11.7) round out the Blazer scorers averaging double figures.
Sophomore Angela Vendrell has been key for the Blazers on the glass, averaging a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game, while Barnes has done her part sharing the basketball with 4.7 assists per game.
High Point (4-2) enters Sunday's matchup riding a three-game winning streak with its most recent win a 59-56 decision over Norfolk State. The Blazers have been successful against the Panthers, leading the all-time series 4-0 with all four wins coming in the last five seasons.
The Panthers are led by junior Emma Bockrath, who leads the team in scoring (13.4 ppg), rebounding (9.8 rpg) and steals (2.8 spg). Bockrath is one of six players on the High Point roster that is currently averaging double figure points this season.
