Blazers Host Alabama State to Close Homestand

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's basketball team wraps up its two game homestand when it welcomes Alabama State to Bartow Arena Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
The Blazers have been successful on their home court this season, carrying a perfect 5-0 record with all wins by double figures.
UAB (8-2) is coming off an impressive 85-58 win over Alabama State on December 17. Three Blazers netted double figures including Deanna Kuzmanic who finished with a game-high 23 points and six assists.
Kuzmanic has been a consistent force in the lineup this season ranking second on the team in points with 13.3 per game. Her 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio leads Conference USA and is good for 35th best in the nation.
Rachael Childress and Miyah Barnes have also been scoring threats for the Blazers, averaging 13.9 and 11.6 points per game, respectively.
Additionally, Barnes has dished out a team best 48 assists while committing just 20 turnovers and ranks second in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio with a 2.4 mark.
Alabama State (1-8) comes into Tuesday's contest following a 79-31 loss at Miami (Fla.) on December 15. Keimeshia Walker poured in a team-high 12-points in her Alabama State debut.
Shamyiah Smith leads the Hornets in scoring averaging 6.7 points per game while shooting 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the field. The senior also has 29 assists to go along with eight steals and two blocks on the season.
The two schools have met 23 times before with the series dating back to the Blazers' inaugural season in 1978. UAB holds an 18-5 advantage including taking the previous three. Fifteen of the Blazers' wins have come by double figures with 12 being by 20 points or more.
