BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season as the Blazers take on Indiana on Nov. 24 and UC-Santa Barbara on Nov. 25 as part of the Hilton Concord Classic hosted by Saint Mary's University in Moraga, California. Tipoff for both games is set for 2:00 p.m. CST/Noon PST.
The Green and Gold are off to their best start at 3-0 since the 1994-95 season when the Blazers opened the year 8-0.
"The Hilton Concord Classic is a great opportunity for us to face some really good non-conference competition," head coach Randy Norton said. "Our girls have had a great time exploring San Francisco the last couple of days. However, now it is time to buckle down and get ready for two very dynamic teams."
UAB used an 85-42 victory over Miles College on Nov. 15 to close out a three-game homestand behind double-digit scoring efforts from Rachael Childress (14), Katelynn Thomas (13), Miyah Barnes (12) and Imani Johnson (11).
Angela Vendrell fell two points shy of her first career double-double, scoring eight points and hauling in a team-high 12 rebounds in the win, while Deanna Kuzmanic posted nine points and a team-high seven assists.
Through three games this season, UAB has been Conference USA's most prolific offensive team, leading the league in scoring offense (82.7 ppg) and scoring margin (+22.7). The Blazers are also shooting a league-best 45.9 percent from behind the arc to provide another spark for the offense.
Indiana is off to a 3-1 start this season but is coming off a 64-61 setback against Chattanooga. The Hoosiers are led by senior guard Tyra Buss, who leads the team in scoring (22.5 ppg), assists (7.5 apg) and steals (2.5 spg). The game will be the third all-time meeting between the two programs, with Indiana holding a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series.
Saturday's game against UC Santa-Barbara (1-2) will be the first meeting between the two programs. The Gauchos are paced by senior Drew Edelman, who is currently averaging a double-double with 21.0 points per game and 10.7 rebounds per game.
