MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 19 UAB bowling team posted an impressive 5-0 record on day one of the Hornet Classic held on Friday at Brunswick Zone.
"Today was a great day," head coach Michelle Crews said. "We had a slow start to the morning but the girls dug deep, even when they didn't have the best look, and found a way to win their matches. Being a nearby event we were able to bring the entire team this weekend. I was able to get some girls in the lineup that haven't gotten to play much yet this year. It was awesome to see all of them support each other no matter who was bowling and see everyone step up when they needed to. We learned a lot today and we will make the necessary changes to hopefully get off to a better start tomorrow."
UAB opened the day with a 824-671 commanding victory over Alabama A&M edging out Southern 938-835 in the second game.
The Blazers squared off with Belmont Abbey in game three downing the Crusaders 985-571. Game four was another victory over FAMU, 971-880 and the Blazers closed the day with a 996-874 win over Alabama State.
Competition picks back up tomorrow morning with teams bowling five Traditional matches beginning at 8:30.
