BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule this past weekend as action came to a close at the 2017 CCB Collegiate Invitational at The Country Club of Birmingham.
Over the course of the three-day competition, the Blazers posted eight singles wins and four doubles wins.
Tim Dollman provided the team's best showing in singles play in the Crimson singles draw, taking down third-seeded Adam Walton of Tennessee (6-1, 3-6, 6-3) en route to advancing to the last four in the bracket. He eventually fell to top-seeded Robert Herrera of ETSU in a three-set thriller, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.
In the Houndstooth singles draw, both Kenton Parton and Giovani Pasini recorded two wins in singles play, while Stefan Gonzalez took home one win in the White bracket.
Dollman and Anru Fourie took down Tennessee's Walton and Andrew Rogers (8-7(1)) before falling to the top-seeded Tulane tandem of Ruetzel and Stewart 8-3. Gonzalez and Parton faced a tall task in doubles play as they were paired with second-seeded Langmo and Shimamoto of Miami. Despite a tough battle, the duo fell to the Hurricane's pair, 8-4.
The Blazers will now have two months off before it opens the regular season on Jan. 14 when the Green and Gold travel to Starkville, Mississippi, to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
