IRVING, Texas – UAB senior midfielder Amy Brewer was the selected as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league office announced on Monday.
Brewer notched her second hat trick of the season Friday when she scored the first three goals of the game in a 4-2 victory over Marshall. The Peachtree City, Ga., native needed just three shots for the hat trick and finished the match having tallied at least one point in six straight games.
Brewer also helped the Blazers run their unbeaten streak to nine, which set a school record for the longest such streak in UAB history.
"We're happy for Amy and pleased that she was able to score two goals off set pieces, which is one of our biggest focuses in practice," UAB head coach Erica Demers said. "The first goal was on a penalty kick caused by a great effort by Caroline Kehrer, and the second one was off a free kick that she, Rachel Green and Regan Kommor executed perfectly."
Brewer now ranks second in Conference USA and ninth in the NCAA with nine goals. She is also second in the league and 23rd in the country with 22 points. In addition, her game-winning goal Friday against the Thundering Herd was her fourth of the year, ranking her first in Conference USA and 13th in the nation.
"We've been working a lot on the little details of the game like set pieces and penalty kicks, so it was really great to be so opportunistic and get those goals," Brewer said. "I'm honored to receive this award for the second week in a row, but I definitely have to credit my teammates and Alex Otto's magic gum."
Brewer is the first Blazer since Tara Kidwell in 2004 to win Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week twice in the same season. It's also the seventh time this season a Blazer has won one of the league's weekly awards.
UAB returns to the pitch Friday at 7 p.m. when the Blazers head to Denton, Texas, to face North Texas in their final road trip of the regular season.
