IRVING, Texas – On the heels of one of the most successful seasons in school history, five members of the UAB women's soccer team were selected All-Conference USA, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Junior keeper Kelsey Daugherty and senior midfielder Amy Brewer were both selected to the first team, senior midfielder Rachel Green earned a spot on the second team and freshman defender Audria Wood landed on the third team. Wood and midfielder Regan Kommor each garnered All-Freshman Team accolades.
"I'm ecstatic about the honors that were awarded to our players," UAB head coach Erica Demers said. "Amy, Rachel and Kelsey have produced massive turnarounds within just one year and I am happy the conference recognized them. They have been at the crux of our success this season."
Daugherty ended the regular season tops in Conference USA and 52nd in the NCAA with a 0.75 goals against average on her way to finishing second in the league and 46th in the nation with seven shutouts. The Kennesaw, Ga., native also lead the league with a .857 save percentage and stood second with 90 saves. In addition, Daugherty was tabbed the Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week four times during the season.
Brewer paced the UAB offense with 25 points on 10 goals and five assists, finishing the year third in the league in points and goals and ninth in assists. The Peachtree City, Ga., native also led Conference USA and ranked 12th in the NCAA with five game-winning goals and was also one of only seven players in the nation with two hat tricks this season. Brewer also earned the distinction of C-USA Offensive Player of the Week twice.
Daugherty and Brewer are the first Blazers to be named to the All-Conference USA First Team since Tiffini Turpin in 2011.
Green started all 19 games and ranked third on the team with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. She was tied for ninth in Conference USA in goals and was fourth in the league with three game-winning goals. In addition, the Peachtree City, Ga., native was selected as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week once during the season.
Wood started in each of the 18 games in which she appeared and helped the Blazers finish the season with a league-leading 0.75 goals against average. In addition, the UAB defense surrendered 14 fewer goals this season than it did all of 2016. The Gadsden, Ala., won one Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
Kommor started all 19 games in the midfield and gives UAB two members of the Conference USA All-Freshman Team for the first time since 2013. She finished the regular season with five assists and played an instrumental role in helping the Blazers increase their win total by nine from last season.
"Both Regan and Audria have played major minutes for us as freshmen and have contributed more than expected," Demers said. "Both are competitors by nature and have been surrounded by experienced players to help this grow this fall."
UAB begins play in the Conference USA Tournament Wednesday at 6 p.m. when the No. 3 seed Blazers face sixth-seeded Florida Atlantic at the FAU Soccer Stadium.
