UAB Finishes Fourth at C-USA Championships, Best Since 2010

JACKSON, Miss. – The UAB cross county team finished fourth at the Conference USA Championships, its best finish at the conference meet since 2010.

The Blazers were picked to finish seventh in the preseason C-USA coaches poll but with a strong mix of veteran leadership and talented underclassmen they put together an excellent regular season and rode that momentum into the conference championships.

The fourth place finish continues to upward trend for the Green and Gold at the conference meet as they placed 7th last season and were 11th in 2015.

Blazer Highlights:

Emily Drouin, Rebecca Evans and Sarah Livett made All-Conference teams as Drouin made the First Team while Evans and Livett both made the Second Team.
Drouin finished fifth overall with a time of 17:21.50. It is the best finish by a Blazer since Elinor Kirk won the conference meet in 2013.
Livett finished 10th overall with a time of 17:39.99
Evans came in 13th running the course in 17:48.20
UAB had six runners set new PRs

Course Side with Head Coach Matt Esche:
"Today was a good day, from seventh in the preseason to fourth at the conference meet is a great accomplishment," head coach Matt Esche said. "It speaks to how hard the girls worked all year long. It is the best finish we have had in a long time and we were just two points out of third and just 10 points out of second. The Ladies ran extremely well and I am incredibly happy and excited for them."

The season isn't over yet as UAB will compete again Nov. 10 at the South Region Tournament.
