IRVING, Texas – UAB women's soccer senior midfielder Amy Brewer was selected as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Brewer scored four goals last week to lead the Blazers to a win over FIU and a draw with Florida Atlantic. The two results have UAB on an eight-game unbeaten streak and in fourth place in the Conference USA standings.
A native of Peachtree City, Ga., Brewer opened the week with three goals on Friday in a 5-1 victory over FIU, needing just four shots and 59 minutes to register the first hat trick for UAB since 2011.
She followed that performance up by scoring the game-tying goal Sunday in a 1-1 draw at Florida Atlantic. Brewer has now scored at least one point for the Blazers in five consecutive games.
"Amy had her best weekend of the season by far and she is certainly deserving of this honor," UAB head coach Erica Demers said. "Along with Rachel Green, Regan Kommor and Lucy Thrasher, who help distribute underneath to our two seniors, our midfield did a fantastic job as a whole. This line was extremely unselfish and supportive on both ends of the field."
Brewer now leads UAB in points (16), goals (6) and assists (4) while ranking fifth in the league in points and goals.
"I think last week was good for the team as a whole," Brewer said. "We were all focused and spot on during practice, and that carried over to the games last week. I think we've proven a lot about who we are as a program and what we strive to be. This is the most dedicated, selfless and hardworking team that I've been a part of at UAB. It's an honor to play with my teammates and under our incredible coaching staff."
Brewer joins Green as a recipient of the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week award this season. Kelsey Daugherty has already earned Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Week accolades three times this year, while Audria Wood was the awarded the distinction as the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week last month.
Brewer and UAB return to the pitch Friday at 7 p.m. when the Blazers host Marshall at BBVA Compass Field.
