BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off one of the most dominant freshman seasons in program history, reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year Rachael Childress has been named to the Preseason All-Conference USA team, the conference office announced on Monday.
Childress is the first player to be named to the preseason squad since Chelsee Black earned the distinction prior to the 2014-15 season.
"Rachael is very deserving to be on the preseason team," head coach Randy Norton said. "She is constantly in the gym working on her game and is really emerging as a leader on the team. Rachael is the type of player that will continue to put us in a good position to be successful."
The Moulton, Alabama, native played a major role in the success of the Blazers' offense during her first season in the Green and Gold as she led the team with an average of 12.4 points per game in 31.7 minutes per game.
She was also dominant in C-USA play, leading the league's freshman in points per game (12.4), 3-point field goal percentage (.403) and 3-pointers per game (3.2).
Childress was extremely effective behind the arc, breaking multiple conference and program records. She holds Conference USA's freshman record for 3-pointers made in a single season (95), which is also fifth overall in the record books.
Her 95 made 3-pointers is good for second in school history and a UAB freshman record. She finished the season as a part of a UAB team that set the program record for 3-point field goal percentage (37.3) as well as the team that finished second in school history in made 3-point field goals (218)

For tickets, UAB fans have the opportunity to purchase a Gold Card which allows access to six different sports, including women's basketball, baseball and softball, throughout the upcoming season.
