BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB women’s basketball head coach Randy Norton announced the hiring of Kayla Bryant as Director of Basketball Operations Monday.
“We have known Kayla for a long time and are very excited to have her join our staff,” Norton said. “She has been with us going on four years here at UAB and played for Coach (Taren) Martin at Eureka College. She is of the highest character, has an outstanding work ethic and has tremendous people skills. Kayla will be a great addition to our staff.”
Following a year at Eureka College in 2012-13 under Martin, Bryant decided to join Martin at UAB as a student manager in 2013.
“I am beyond excited for this path that God has put me on,” Bryant said. “I owe a huge thank you to Coach Norton for blessing me with this opportunity.”
Fresh off of receiving her degree in business management in December, Bryant’s responsibilities include handling the program’s daily operations, coordinating travel itineraries, assisting with scouting videos and overseeing the team’s student managers. She will also oversee the overall operation of basketball camps.
Bryant, in a year at Eureka College, saw action in 18 games and shot 30.8 percent from the floor. She reeled in 44 boards, dished out six assists and netted 27 points.
A native of Eureka, Ill., Bryant guided Eureka High School to IHSA 2A regional and sectional crowns in 2012. She received All-Cornbelt Conference Honorable Mention as a senior and led the Hornets to the St. Bede Christmas Tournament championship, receiving All-Tournament honors.
UAB hits the road for its first C-USA road trip as it travels to preseason No. 1 Western Kentucky on Thursday before heading to Marshall on Saturday, January 14.
