Dear Blazer Nation,
We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family, and are looking forward to a prosperous new year. Our coaches, staff and student-athletes are engaged and excited for all that lies ahead in 2017.
I’d first like to share that in this past Fall semester, our student-athletes set another record with a 3.14 combined GPA. We had 256 student-athletes with a 3.0 or higher, 150 with a 3.5 or higher, and 52 had a perfect 4.0! Our Women’s Tennis team scored the highest with a 3.73 and 17 of our 18 teams had a collective 3.0 or higher; that’s outstanding! Thanks to all of them for their hard work and thanks to our terrific staff in the Hoke-Hire Academics Center for supporting them each and every day.
C-USA play has started for Men’s and Women’s Basketball. Please be sure to come support our teams at Bartow Arena. Also, the C-USA Basketball Tournament is back in Birmingham and will be here before we know it. Please secure your tickets today. Our fans and community have been terrific supporting this great event in the past.
Mark your calendars for Feb. 1, 2017 which is National Signing Day for football prospects. We will have live coverage on uabsports.com followed by a fun event at Iron City Brewery that evening. You’ll be able to meet our coaches and get the inside scoop on the recruiting process for the young men signing on that day, as well as those who signed this past month at the mid-year. Football Season Tickets are on sale now! Call the ticket office at (205) 975-8221 to reserve your seat as we make history next fall.
You may have seen the news about our record giving year in Blazer Boosters! This is the second year in a row that we have exceeded $5 million in total giving. That’s a huge accomplishment and obviously we have all of you to thank for it. Sometimes people ask us who gets the credit for that kind of success, and the answer is simple…YOU DO! Our donors who invest in our program and the education of our student-athletes are 100% responsible for our success, so thank you!!
The Football Operations project is making great progress and is on schedule for a July 1 completion date. You can watch the progress live at uabsports.com to see the crew hard at work every day. Our softball stadium project is also on schedule and will be finished in mid-February. Additionally, we have refreshed our academics center and weight room for all of our student-athletes. These continued improvements make a huge difference and show them how much we care about their experience here at UAB. There’s a lot more on the way and we will keep you informed every step of the way.
Let’s have another great year! We look forward to seeing you soon…Go Blazers!
