UAB Cross Country Opens 2016 at Memphis Twilight, Places Sixth

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A pair of top 25 individual finishes led the UAB cross country team at the Memphis Twilight on Saturday evening at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
It took a total team effort as nine Blazers finished under the 20-minute mark. Senior Hannah Coffin led UAB as she finished 17th overall with a personal record time of 18:06.86. Junior Rebecca Evans followed shortly after finishing 22nd at 18:16.17.
"I'm very happy with how we ran tonight," UAB head cross country coach Matt Esche said. "We ran with a purpose, ran tough and showed we have definitely put the work in over the summer. This is a solid start to the season, but we have a lot more to accomplish."
Sarah Livett (18:28.97) and Emily Drouin (18:31.45) finished 35th and 37th, respectively. Freshmen Victoria Roughsedge and Serena Martinez rounded out the top six as they both set personal records with times of 18:34.08 and 19:12.59, respectively.
Fellow rookies Jenna Hinds and Marielle Lewis finished at 19:22.21 and 20:00.55, while Oklahoma transfer Chloe Peek rounded out the group with a time of 20:27.29.
The Blazers placed sixth overall out of 11 teams with 146 points. Alabama earned 54 points, leading all teams, followed by No. 18 Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Memphis and Middle Tennessee.
UAB takes a week off before heading to Nashville for the Commodore Classic on September 17, hosted by Vanderbilt.
