UAB Volleyball Falls to Middle Tennessee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team fell to Middle Tennessee in four sets, 3-1 (17-25, 19-25, 25-16, 19-25), on Friday night at Bartow Arena.
UAB (7-9, 0-1) hit .171 in the match with 41 kills while Middle Tennessee (4-10, 1-0) also posted a .171 attack percentage and struck 46 kills.
Haley Jared led the Blazers with 14 kills and posted a .263 attack percentage. Petra Silic and Kenley Adams were second on the squad with seven kills each. Zahria Richard led the team with a .308 attack percentage and recorded six kills of her own.
Defensively, Silic controlled the net with four total blocks while the team recorded eight as a whole.
A five-point swing midway through the first set allowed Middle Tennessee to take control and the Blue Raiders cruised to a 25-17 win. Middle Tennessee jumped to an early lead in the second set forcing the Blazers to play catch-up but they couldn’t overcome the gap and fell 25-19.
After the break, the Blazers seized control in the third set. Middle Tennessee never took the lead and only tied once before UAB won 25-16. The Blue Raiders hit a .258 in the final set and used a scoring run midway through to clinch the match with a 25-19 win.
Regan Coughlin led Middle Tennessee with 15 kills while Bailey Mason had a team-high three blocks.
The Blazers return to the floor on Sunday when they host UTEP at Bartow Arena at 1 p.m.
