Three Blazers Earn Summer All-League Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB baseball team had three individuals honored this summer for their play in summer league competitions. Blake Johnson, Jared Nixon and Carter Pharis played well enough to earn All-League honors in their respective summer leagues.
Johnson earned his honors playing for the San Luis Obispo Blues in the California League. The shortstop hit .312 over the summer with 26 runs and 13 RBI.
Nixon made the All-Great Lakes League First Team playing for the Lima Locos. His efforts helped lead the team to the league championship where they would finish as runner-ups. Nixon batted .323 with 25 runs, two home runs and 21 RBI. The sophomore added 10 doubles and 11 stolen bases and was one of only three players in the league to reach double-digits in each of those statistics.
Pharis shined in the Valley League for the Strasburg Express. The sophomore raked with a .342 batting average, 35 runs, five home runs, 30 RBI, and 13 doubles. All those statistics ranked in the top 10 of the league, with the RBI and doubles each ranking second.
